The Fall of Medusa, Wall Art, Wooden Wall Art, Wall Hangings, Handmade

This piece, titled "The Fall of Medusa," reimagines the mythical Gorgon in a modern, abstract form. Drawing inspiration from ancient Greek mythology, this artwork captures the moment of Medusa’s defeat while exploring the complexity of her character both as a monster and a victim.

The fragmented, mosaic-like design symbolises Medusa's shattered identity, torn between her cursed existence and the humanity she once possessed. Her serpentine locks, rendered in vibrant greens and blues, drip downward like tears, suggesting both the venom of her power and the sorrow of her fate. The pale, expressionless face conveys a sense of resignation, as though she has accepted her tragic destiny.

The hand clutching her head is both a symbol of victory and oppression. Its firm grip, rendered in bold, warm tones, contrasts with the cool, soft colours of Medusa’s face, creating a tension that draws the viewer into the narrative. This stark juxtaposition highlights the eternal struggle between power and vulnerability, justice and vengeance.

By deconstructing Medusa’s tale and presenting it in a visually fragmented manner, we aimed to shed new light on her story, allowing viewers to see her not just as a symbol of terror, but as a figure of tragic beauty and profound complexity.

This is a handmade artwork and is crafter with multiple wooden layers to give the illustration a 3D look. It combines 57 individual wooden pieces in total.
